Rheumatic heart disease (RHD) is a preventable that remains endemic in developing countries. More than 30 million people the world suffer from RHD, of which approximately 300,000 die every year, despite fact this and treatable. After period relative neglect rheumatic diseases due to decrease incidence developed countries, interest problem has increased again over past decade, due, apparently, an underestimation its true prevalence subclinical course carditis. Research two decades demonstrated advantage diagnosing RHD with echocardiographic screening based on World Heart Federation criteria, 10 times greater clinical auscultatory picture only it allowsearly detection patients, while prevention be more likely effective. Although understanding pathogenesis advanced recent years, key issues remain unresolved. Preventing or providing early treatment for streptococcal infections most important step reducing burden disease. The management women before, during after pregnancy serious task requiring efforts multidisciplinary team. In 2015, civil society movement was launched aimed at raising awareness supporting countries seeking solve problem. May 2018, Health Organization adopted resolution intensifying global national prevent combat acute fever/RHD.
